Tamiya 1/16 Full Option King Tiger Tank - Page 11

Here are pictures of it almost finished and all ready for battle. Notice I said almost finished, as with all my RC tanks I’m always adding accessories and adding extra battle detail to it, so it’s never totally finished.

One of the first things that people usually buy for their tank is metal tracks, which can be quite expensive. But I’m finding out that the plastic tracks that come with the tank are holding up quite well with no problems at all. If one does break on you, your model kit comes with extra track links and pins just in case.traverse motor Shield

One modification I did make to my King Tiger is add a plastic shield around the traverse motor (Turret rotating motor) to help protect it from getting wires stuck or caught inside the gears as the turret rotated back and forth.

You can make this with any very thin piece of plastic and glue in place with crazy glue. This is a very simple upgrade to make yourself and I would highly recommend doing this with all Tamiya Full Option RC tanks.

Another item I made for my tank is a dust shield for the drive motors. This helps protect dust and dirt from getting inside the gears. This is another very easy item to make with everyday items you already have around the house.

All you need is aluminum foil and electrical tape. I folded two pieces of aluminum foil together until I got the size I needed to cover the entire motors and gears. Than I use electrical tape to cover the topside only of the foil. The electrical tape will help keep the shape of the aluminum foil from removing your cover from time to time for cleaning. This is another very simple item to make yourself and I would highly recommend doing this with all Tamiya Full Option RC tanks.

We hope you enjoyed our tutorial on our King Tiger build and you found it to be informative. Hopefully you now have a good idea in what it takes to build one of these great RC models. As you can see it’s really not too hard to do even for a beginner.
